BCS is built on many years of experience in greenhouse IPM. Graeme Murphy, the owner of BCS has:
-
more than 26 year’s experience as the Greenhouse IPM Specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food
-
4 years private consulting experience (ongoing) with the greenhouse industry
-
4 years of IPM teaching experience (ongoing) in the Niagara College Greenhouse Technician Program.
BCS has worked with a range of greenhouse crops including, cut and potted flowers, bedding plants, vertical farming and cannabis.
We have access to and have worked closely with a broad cross-section of contacts in the greenhouse industry, including:
-
all major biocontrol producers and distributors. Development of IPM programs needs to be a collaborative process, that includes the grower, the consultant and the biocontrol supplier. All have contributions to make, and decisions made and acted upon without input from everyone involved can result in conflicting advice, miscommunications and potential negative consequences.
-
researchers and extension specialists in plant pathology and entomology. There is a wealth of knowledge and information available in the research and extension communities, locally and around the world. Relationships within those communities that have been established over the last 30 years, provide BCS with valuable information resources, practical experience and access to cutting edge research.
-
diagnostic labs can be key to the correct diagnosis of pest problems. For many insect, mite and disease pests, experience allows for rapid and on-site diagnosis. But for situations such as disease diagnosis or new pest problems, certified diagnostic labs offer an important service. Having used diagnostic labs for many years, BCS has established a trusted relationship with diagnostic personnel.
-
the pesticide registration sector. New pesticides (whether traditional or microbial) are often very different from those that were registered 20-30 years ago. Even with the focus on biocontrol in many IPM programs, pesticides are still (and likely always will be) an important part of IPM. BCS understands the process of pesticide registration and has worked closely with companies and individuals in the sector. BCS also has an excellent understanding of how pesticides work and how they can (or cannot) fit into an IPM program.
